What are steamed cupcakes?
Steamed cupcakes are exactly what they sound like. They are cupcakes that are cooked by steaming instead of being baked. Steamed cupcakes are a great alternative if you don’t have an oven or just want to try something new.
This specific recipe also has the additional benefit of requiring no oil or butter. There are no added fats!

- Add in the milk and whisk until you get a nice and smooth batter.
- Divide the batter into 4 cupcake molds
Drawing the Jack Skellington design
- Make sure to set aside some batter before dividing the batter into 4 cupcake molds.
- Take this batter and dye it black then transfer it into a piping bag.
- Cut a small slit at the end of the piping bag and begin to draw the design directly on top of the cupcake batter
Steaming the cupcakes
The cupcakes need to be steamed for 20 minutes on medium heat. You can do this by either using a steamer or if you don’t have a steamer, use a large enough pot that can comfortably fit the 4 cupcakes.
To set up steaming with a large pot you would need a steaming rack.
- Fill the pot with about 1 inch of water
- Place the steaming rack inside
- Once the water has come to a boil, place the plate with the cupcakes inside.
- Cover the pot with a lid and steam on medium heat for 20 minutes.
