Hello, I am back again with another Sanrio cookie post. I’ve already made Sanrio sugar cookies and snickerdoodles in the past, so now it is time to make some butter cookies.
I also have a post with an easier 4 ingredient butter cookie recipe that can be used if you want to make these Sanrio cookies but want an easier recipe. However, I personally find this recipe tastier and would recommend this recipe over the basic 4 ingredient version.

How to make these cookies
The first step is to of course make the cookie dough. Once you have made the dough, you then dye it into whatever colors you need depending on which characters you are making. In my case I made Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, and Pochacco.
- Pompompurin: I had to dye yellow and brown dough.
- Cinnamoroll: Didn’t have to dye anything. I used plain dough since plain dough is white and Cinnamoroll is white. I also used royal icing to draw the face on after so I didn’t have to dye any blue or pink.
- Pochacco: dye some black dough.
In total I needed to dye just 3 colors: yellow, brown and black.
Once your dough dyed, it is time to shape the cookies.
How to shape the cookies
The basics steps are:
- Roll a piece of dough into a ball for the head
- Add on defining features (ears and hat)
- Add on the face
All cookies start off the same. You take a piece of dough and roll it into a ball for the head. Then you put on the defining features. In my case this was just adding on the ears for each character and the hat for Pompompurin.
It’s okay if you find it harder to make finer details like the face out of cookie dough because you can always add that on after baking with some royal icing or melted chocolate.
Another way to draw on the finer features of the face is to take some of the cookie dough and adding a few drops of water until it reaches a pipeable consistency and piping out a face with the cookie dough.
If you look closely in the pictures (or watch my youtube video), you can see that Pochacco’s eyes and nose are actually made from cookie dough while the rest of them have their faces piped on after baking with royal icing or melted chocolate. I think the result of both methods are good so it all comes down to personal preference. I personally find it easier to pipe on the faces after but you can try it out for yourself and see what you prefer.
TIPS
- Remember to keep unused cookie dough covered to prevent it from drying out. You don’t want to end up with dry cracked cookies after all your hard work!
- It’s okay if you have trouble making the faces out of cookie dough. You can pipe on the faces at the end with royal icing or melted chocolate
