Nutella Thumbprint Cookies

These Nutella thumbprint cookies are soft and buttery and have a deliciously sweet Nutella center. 

What are thumbprint cookies?

Thumbprint cookies are buttery soft cookies that are filled with a sweet center. The center is traditionally filled with jam but I filled mine with Nutella. 

They are called thumbprint cookies because you use your thumb to make an indent in the cookies for the filling. 

Thumbprint cookies are super easy to make. The cookie dough can be made in 3 easy steps!

How to make the cookie dough

  1. Cream together butter and sugar
  2. Mix in the egg yolk, vanilla and salt
  3. Add in flour and mix until a dough forms

How to make traditional thumbprint cookies

  1. Make cookie dough
  2. Ball up the dough and make an indent in it
  3. Fill with jam
  4. Bake and enjoy!

How to make these bear shaped Nutella thumbprint cookies

  1. Make the cookie dough
  2. Ball up the dough and then flatten it. Use your finger or the end of a spatula or whatever other tool you have laying around to make an indent in the shape of a bear/rabbit
  3. Bake the cookies
  4. Fill it with Nutella
  5. Enjoy!

TIP

  • Use a piping bag to pipe in the Nutella to get perfectly filled cookies. 

This is the same thumbprint cookie dough recipe that I used in the past to make frog heart thumbprint cookies. The only difference is that I filled these with Nutella instead of jam. (And the fact that these are not frog shaped nor are they green). 

Thumbprint Cookies

Delicious buttery soft thumbprint cookies that can be filled with whatever filling you want
Servings 16 cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 116 grams butter, softened
  • 68 grams sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 146 grams flour
  • Filling of your choice

Instructions
 

  • Cream together the butter and sugar
  • Add in egg yolk, vanilla, and salt. Mix until combined
  • Add in flour and mix until a dough forms
  • Take about 1 tbsp of cookie dough and roll it up into balls
  • Flatten each ball and press an indent into each one
  • Fill with your filling of choice
  • Bake 12-14 minutes at 177C/350F
