Hello 2024. Lunar New Year this year is on February 10th and is the year of the dragon. What’s a better way to celebrate than to make some cute little dragon cookies!
This is a very basic butter cookie recipe that requires only 4 ingredients: butter, sugar, egg, and flour. It can’t get easier than that.

The Year of The Dragon
Most of you probably know that each new year is associated with one of the 12 zodiac animals. Did you also know that each year the animals are also associated with a different element? The elements are: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. This year ‘s element is wood so it is actually The Year of the Wood Dragon.
The element wood is represented with the colors green and blue hence the reason why I made green and blue dragons.
How to make these cookies
These 4 ingredient butter cookies are as easy to make as the name suggests.
- Cream together the butter and sugar
- Add in the egg yolk and mix until combined
- Add in the flour and mix until a dough forms.
How to shape the cookies
The dragons can be made in very basic steps (refer to picture below):
- Take a ball of green/blue dough for the dragon body
- Grab a piece plain white dough for the belly. Press the dough into the shape you want then use a toothpick to make the belly indents.
- Use the same white dough to make two little horns on the head
- Take little pieces of the green/blue dough to shape the ears
- (You can use some black dough or whatever color you want to make the face but I personally find it easier to just pipe on the face with royal icing/melted chocolate after)

If you need help with the shaping, there is a video you can refer to below.
TIP
Keep unused dough covered to prevent it from drying out while shaping the dragons.
