HEART CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Chocolate chip cookie with a pink heart center

Do you know those Pillsbury cut and slice cookies? The ones that come in a log and you slice each cookie and there’s an image on each cookie? Well, this is basically that cookie but the chocolate chip version.

These are heart shaped chocolate chip cookies. Except the heart is in the center of the cookie and the entire cookie isn’t heart shape. I’m sure many of you have tried to make heart shaped chocolate chip cookies only to have them turn out into giant blobs. And do you know why that happens? It’s because chocolate chip cookies don’t hold their shape. If you want a cookie to hold its shape, you should try a sugar cookie or a butter cookie. This cookie is one way to avoid having cookie blobs. The outside cookie dough holds the heart shape together, resulting in a perfect heart.

How to make heart chocolate chip cookies

The first step is to make the cookie dough

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar
  2. Add in the egg and vanilla extract and mix.
  3. Add in the dry ingredients and mix.
  4. Add in the chocolate chips and mix.

The second step is to dye some of the cookie dough pink. I made my hearts pink but you could do any color you want. Red, purple, blue, or even black if you have a dark soul. Any color works.

The last two steps are to shape the cookies and then bake them.

How to shape these cookies

  1. Take the pink cookie dough and cut heart shapes out using a cookie cutter. If you don’t have a cookie cutter then just shape the hearts by hand
  2. Put the cookie dough hearts in the freezer for a few minutes to firm it up
  3. Wrap plain undyed cookie dough around the hearts
Refer to picture and video below for how to shape these cookies.

TIP

  • Do NOT skip the step where you toss the cookie dough hearts into the freezer to firm up. Freezing the hearts ensures it keeps its shape while you wrap dough around it. Otherwise you risk having deformed hearts.
