FROG HEART THUMBPRINT COOKIES

These frog thumbprint cookies are a nice fun twist to the classic thumbprint cookie. Not only are they absolutely adorable but they are very easy to make as well!

These cookies are soft and buttery with a sweet jam filling. You can fill the cookies with whatever jam you like. I personally filled mine with strawberry jam.

Do you spot the little heartbroken frog? Poor soul got dumped

How to make frog thumbprint cookies

First start off by making the cookie dough. As with most cookie dough recipes, you cream together the butter and sugar, then mix in the wet ingredients followed by the dry until you have your cookie dough. Once you have your cookie dough, it is time to dye it green. Dye it whatever shade of green you like.

Then, as the name suggests, you press in the indent of a heart using your thumbprint. (Or your index finger if your thumbs are also too big like mine).

Once you have your heart indents in, fill them with whatever jam you like and then bake them. No chilling required at all in this recipe! It’s a fast bake. You’ll have cookies before you know it!

Allow the cookies to cool before drawing on the faces with royal icing.

TIPS:

  • If you find it hard to make a heart imprint with your fingers, you can always press in the shape of the heart with the back of a wooden spoon.
  • You can use whatever jam you like. Don’t like jam? How about Nutella? Everybody likes Nutella right? You can fill these with Nutella. I do, however, recommended filling it with Nutella AFTER baking instead of before
  • Use a piping bag to pipe out the jam if you find spooning it too messy
